Draft Roundup: Day Two

After taking a lot of position players yesterday (14 out of 19 picks), I predicted that the Twins would continue to go with position players heavily, but not to as great an extent as on Day 1. To see if my very vague prediction was correct, I calculated (through incredibly ponderous methods) the percentage of position players drafted as 73.6% on day 1 (commend my amazing math skills!). We'll see how I fared on day 2. Here are the day's draftees:

42/1266 - Robert Anderson - RHP - high school

45/1353 - Brandon Trodick - RHP - junior college
46/1381 - Richard Breton - CF - high school
47/1409 - Joshua Chester - RF - high school
48/1437 - Stephen Vento - RHP - junior college
49/1465 - Calvin Culver - CF - high school
50/1493 - Derek McCallum - SS - high school

Some numbers to sum up day 2 of the draft:

32 total picks - 20 high school/5 4-year college/7 junior college
19 position players
13 pitchers (2 left-handed)
1 Minnesotan
7 (SEVEN!) Catchers

So, my ridiculously generic prediction proves out correct, as this time only 59% of the picks were position players. The amazing thing here is the 7 catchers. After stocking up on outfielders yesterday, today was the day to pick up on some catchers. Whether any of these names ever make it beyond A ball is questionable, but there are always some diamonds in the rough from the low rounds of the draft that make it big every year. Hopefully this years draft class will be that way for the Twins.
