Down on the Farm: AA Report
Starting Pitchers
1.) Errol Simonitsch - 5-8 / 3.56 ERA / 86 inn / 51-20 K-BB
2.) Glen Perkins - 2-9 / 4.24 ERA / 85 inn / 92-32 K-BB
3.) Matt Garza - 5-2 / 2.92 ERA / 49.1 inn / 59-14 K-BB
4.) Justin Olson - 4-2 / 4.91 ERA / 44 inn / 54-21 K-BB
5.) Kevin Slowey - 1-1 / 3.38 ERA / 13.1 inn / 10-1 K-BB
Kevin Slowey made his first two starts for the Rock Cats this week, and you can see his numbers. His first start wasn't so great, but he was much better in the second one. His 10-1 K-BB rate indicates that he is probably going to continue to see success this season, and should be on pace for a promotion to AAA at the start of next season. He did replace Nick Blackburn in the rotation, as I suspected last week.
Glen Perkins also got two starts this week, and took two losses. He went 8.2 innings in his two starts, which is a rather unimpressive number. His ERA jumped by .66 points, and he also had a dismal (for him) 3-5 K-BB ratio, clearly an indication that he wasn't feeling it this week.
Errol Simonitsch took a loss in his one start this week, his ERA increasing by .23 points. He went just 5 innings in his start.
Matt Garza snapped out of his recent funk, picking up the win and going 8 innings in his start. His ERA fell by .57 points, and he struck out 7 while walking only 1.
Finally, Justin Olson seems to have replaced Adam Harben in the rotation (Harben pitched twice out of the bullpen, so this looks like more than a spot start for Olson). Olson went 5 innings in his start, which resulted in a no-decision. His ERA fell by .17 points.
Relief Pitchers
1.) Levale Speigner - 1-1 / 3.19 ERA / 42.1 inn / 26-9 K-BB
2.) Tristan Crawford - 2-4 / 4.03 ERA / 51.1 inn / 54-18 K-BB
3.) John Thomas - 1-2 / 5.29 ERA / 34 inn / 28-15 K-BB
4.) Julio DePaula - 1-2 / 2.81 ERA / 32 inn / 26-15 K-BB
5.) Nick Blackburn - 5-7 / 5.38 ERA / 83.2 inn / 48-27 K-BB
6.) Adam Harben - 1-4 / 3.78 ERA / 64.1 inn / 29-41 K-BB
Levale Speigner made 3 appearances this week, going 3.1 innings and getting rocked. His ERA jumped by .65 points, and he didn't get any strikeouts while walking two batters. Not a solid week for the Rock Cats closer.
Tristan Crawford also had a very bad week, taking the loss and going 4.1 innings in 2 appearances. His ERA surged by .77 points, although he did get 5 K's to go with his 5 BB's.
John Thomas didn't break the streak of bad weeks, as he got into just 1 game for 1 inning, and raised his ERA by .11 points while getting 1 K and 1 BB.
Julio DePaula got into 3 games, pitching 4.2 innings. His ERA went up by .18 points, and he struck out 3 batters while walking 2.
Nick Blackburn got into three games out of the bullpen, going 4.2 innings and raising his ERA by .14 points. He did pick up 5 K's against just 1 BB.
Finally, Adam Harben got into 2 games after being demoted, going 4 innings. Like everybody else in the bullpen, he raised his ERA (by .20 points). He struck out one but walked 4, not helping his already horrendous K-BB ratio (something that probably played a role in his losing his place in the rotation).
