Down on the Farm: AA Report

Get Rock Cats info on the team website.

First, a correction from last week. I had Bobby Korecky (RP) on the AA roster, but he was promoted to AAA on May 24. My apologies.

Now, onto the update. I'm stilll experimenting with how to run these updates, so this will look a little different from yesterday's AAA update.

Starting Pitchers
It was almost uniformly a bad week for the Rock Cats starters. All of them picked up at least one loss, with Nick Blackburn losing two games. Matt Garza picked up his first loss but actually lowered his ERA, which is now just over 1.50. Here are the current stats, through yesterday's games.

1.) Errol Simonitsch - 5-4 / 3.09 / 64 inn. / 44-17 K-BB
2.) Glen Perkins - 2-6 / 3.75 / 62.1 inn. / 73-21 K-BB
3.) Matt Garza - 3-1 / 1.52 / 29.2 inn. / 39-7 K-BB
4.) Adam Harben - 1-3 / 3.30 / 46.1 inn. / 21-30 K-BB
5.) Nick Blackburn - 4-7 / 5.00 / 66.2 inn. / 39-22 K-BB

Relief Pitchers
With Bobby Korecky in AAA, that leaves Lavale Speigner as the clubs closer. It also means they have only 6 relievers in their bullpen, a relatively low number for a AA team.

1.) Levale Speigner - 0-1 / 2.81 / 32 inn. / 20-6 K-BB
2.) Tristan Crawford - 2-2 / 3.54 / 40.2 inn. / 40-9 K-BB
3.) John Thomas - 1-1 / 4.68 / 25 inn. / 22-12 K-BB
4.) Julio DePaula - 1-1 / 3.05 / 20.2 inn. / 16-10 K-BB
5.) Jay Sawatski - 1-0 / 4.74 / 24.2 inn. / 21-12 K-BB
6.) Justin Olson - 2-2 / 4.76 / 28.1 inn. / 33-14 K-BB

The most notable change in numbers came from John Thomas and Julio DePaula. Thomas pitched 4 innings over the course of the week and saw his ERA baloon by 1.25 (wow), while DePaula went in the other direction, pitching 3.1 innings and lowering his ERA .58 points.

Catchers
In a change from last week, Jose Leger is now being classified solely as a 3B by the club, while Steve Lomasney joins Jose Morales.

1.) Steve Lomasney - 26 games, .195 BA/2 HR/10 RBI
2.) Jose Morales - 37 games, .180 BA/2 HR/ 15 RBI

Morales actually had a pretty good week, raising his batting average by .31 points while playing in four games. I'll have a more complete update on Lomasney next week.

Infielders
As mentioned above, Jose Leger joins this crew officially this week, as a 3B.

1B - Daniel Matienzo - 55 games, .233 BA/ 7 HR/ 39 RBI
2B - Felix Molina - 46 games, .268 BA/ 6 HR/ 23 RBI
SS - J.R. Taylor - 49 games, .200 BA/ 0 HR/ 5 RBI
3B - Matt Moses - 50 games, .266 BA/ 9 HR/ 28 RBI
IF - Tommy Watkins - 30 games, .232 BA/ 0 HR/ 8 RBI
IF - Jose Leger - 3 games, .143 BA/ 0 HR/ 1 RBI

A bad week for the hitters, as everybody suffered a drop of at least 8 points, with Danny Matienzo really struggling, losing .20 points off his batting average. At least he hit a solo homerun this week. Not really any good news to report here, so I'll leave it at that.

Outfielders
1.) Doug Deeds - 52 games, .259 BA/ 3 HR/ 23 RBI
2.) Trent Oeltjen - 41 games, .298 BA/ 0 HR/ 11 RBI
3.) Denard Span - 57 games, .276 BA/ 1 HR/ 15 RBI
4.) Alex Romero - 44 games, .286/ 5 HR/ 16 RBI
5.) Scott Whitrock - 31 games, .240 BA/ 2 HR/ 7 RBI

Deeds, Oeltjen, and Span all raised their batting averages at least a little bit this week, but Romero (13 points) and Whitrock (24 points) both saw pretty big drops. There were no homeruns hit by the outfielders this week.
