Down on the Farm: High A Report

There is link on the right side of the blog to the Ft. Myers Miracle website.

Starting Pitchers
1.) Kevin Slowey - 4-1 / 1.10 ERA / 81.2 inn / 92-7 K-BB
2.) Anthony Swarzak - 3-4 / 4.57 ERA / 69 inn / 73-29 K-BB
3.) Justin Jones - 1-1 / 2.70 ERA / 33.1 inn / 23-12 K-BB
4.) Brian Duensing - 1-2 / 3.60 ERA / 20 inn / 16-2 K-BB
5.) Danny Powers - 3-1 / 3.52 ERA / 30.2 inn / 28-9 K-BB
DL - Kyle Aselton - 4-2 / 4.56 ERA / 49.1 inn / 44-26 K-BB

With the Florida State League All-Star game this week, the Miracle only played 4 games. That means ace Kevin Slowey did not pitch yet this week. He did have an outstanding appearance in the All-Star game, starting the game and pitching a perfect inning, striking out all three batters that he faced. Brian Duensing got 2 starts, and while he went 1-1 in those starts, he managed to lower his ERA by 1.54 points. His K-BB ratio is excellent through his first several starts with the Miracle. Justin Jones and Danny Powers also improved their ERA, while Swarzak struggled a little but improved on his outstanding K-BB ratio.

Relief Pitchers
1.) J.P. Martinez - 1-2 / 3.35 ERA / 37.2 inn / 41-17 K-BB
2.) Ryan Callahan - 2-3 / 4.36 ERA / 33 inn / 28-14 K-BB
3.) Chris Schutt - 2-1 / 3.43 ERA / 21 inn / 27-14 K-BB
4.) Colby Miller - 2-2 / 3.91 ERA / 23 inn / 12-12 K-BB
5.) Tim Lahey - 3-0 / 4.82 ERA / 37.1 inn / 28-13 K-BB
6.) Jose Mijares - 0-5 / 5.23 ERA / 32.2 inn / 36-18 K-BB
7.) Josh Hill - 3-2 / 6.56 ERA / 35.2 inn / 22-13 K-BB
DL - Angel Garcia - 2-1 / 2.93 ERA / 15.1 inn / 13-9 K-BB

It was a good week for most of the Miracle relievers. Josh Hill continued his improvement, reducing his ERA for the second straight week. Schutt, Miller and Lahey also improved. Callahan did very poorly, seeing his ERA balloon by .98, and Mijares saw his jump .09. Martinez did not pitch this week.

Catchers
1.) Kyle Geiger - 52 games / .244 BA / 0 HR / 16 RBI
2.) Korey Feiner - 45 games / .197 BA / 0 HR / 10 RBI

Not much to say; both players stayed right around their averages. Somehow, Geiger got an invite to the Florida State League All-Star game; this league must be awfully short on catchers, or he must be amazing defensively.

Infielders
SS - Alexi Casilla - 64 games / .314 BA / 0 HR / 28 RBI
IF - Luke Hughes - 50 games / .229 BA / 2 HR / 21 RBI
3B - Jose Leger - 17 games / .239 BA / 0 HR / 3 RBI
1B - Brock Peterson - 52 games / .302 BA / 7 HR / 30 RBI
SS - Trevor Plouffe - 61 games / .216 BA / 1 HR / 14 RBI
2B - Matt Tolbert - 39 games / .303 BA / 4 HR / 24 RBI
DL - Dave Winfree - 6 games / .320 BA / 0 HR / 6 RBI
DL - Johnny Woodard - 23 games / .181 BA / 2 HR / 8 RBI

Alexi Casilla was the third Miracle player to get a chance to play in the Florida State League All-Star game, and went 1-for-2. He played in 3 of the 4 regular season games this week, with 2 starts at SS and 1 at 2B. His batting average went down a little, but was pretty constant. Luke Hughes played in 2 games at 3B, and dropped his average slightly. Leger did not play. Brock Peterson started all four Miracle games at 1B, bumped his average up a point and hit a homerun. Plouffe made a big jump in the batting average department, boosting his anemic average above the Mendoza line and hitting his first homerun of the year. He had a 2-for-3 day yesterday, and may be starting to emerge from his professional career-long hitting funk. Meanwhile, Matt Tolbert started 3 games at 2B and 1 in CF, but saw his batting average drop 13 points.

Outfielders
1.) Justin Arneson - 36 games / .196 BA / 0 HR / 8 RBI
2.) Deacon Burns - 55 games / .207 BA / 1 HR / 14 RBI
3.) Garrett Guzman - 64 games / .278 BA / 8 HR / 50 RBI
4.) Jeremy Pickrel - 54 games / .259 BA / 3 HR / 27 RBI
5.) Brandon Roberts - 2 games / .286 BA / 0 HR / 2 RBI
6.) Erold Andrus - 21 games / .215 BA / 2 HR / 18 RBI

With Erold Andrus coming off of the Disabled List, and the acquistion of Brandon Roberts from the Reds in the Juan Castro trade, the Miracle now have a glut of outfielders. Guzman and Pickrel are the everyday players, with Pickrel usually in RF and Guzman either at LF or DH. Roberts has slotted into CF since he joined the club. Guzman continues to get better, bumping his average up by 13 points and hitting another homerun while driving in 5 runs this week.
