Down on the Farm: AA Report

The New Britain Rock Cats website is listed under the links on the right side of the blog, so be sure to check it out for Rock Cats info.

Starting Pitchers
1.) Errol Simonitsch - 5-6 / 3.08 ERA / 76 inn / 49-19 K-BB
2.) Glen Perkins - 2-7 / 3.69 ERA / 68.1 inn / 80-24 K-BB
3.) Matt Garza - 4-1 / 1.26 ERA / 35.2 inn / 47-9 K-BB
4.) Adam Harben - 1-4 / 3.61 ERA / 52.1 inn / 24-33 K-BB
5.) Nick Blackburn - 4-7 / 5.01 ERA / 73.2 inn / 41-23 K-BB

Simonitsch managed to lower his ERA by .01, and yet lose both games he started this week. I suspect that that is fairly hard to do, since his ERA is pretty solid. Another loss for Perkins, whose record does not reflect how well his pitched. Garza continues to dominate, and is clearly in line for a 2007 trip to AAA. The Twins supposedly don't want to promote him a second time this year, but as well as he has pitched it has to be in the back of Terry Ryan's mind.

Relief Pitchers
1.) Levale Speigner - 0-1 / 2.65 ERA / 34 inn / 21-6 K-BB
2.) Tristan Crawford - 2-2 / 3.38 ERA / 42.2 inn / 43-10 K-BB
3.) John Thomas - 1-2 / 4.91 ERA / 25.2 inn / 23-12 K-BB
4.) Julio DePaula - 1-1 / 2.70 ERA / 23.1 inn / 18-11 K-BB
5.) Jay Sawatski - 1-0 / 5.02 ERA / 28.2 inn / 24-14 K-BB
6.) Justin Olson - 2-2 / 5.91 ERA / 32 inn / 39-16 K-BB

It was a very, very bad week for Justin Olson. His ERA jumpd 1.25 points. Speigner, Crawford, and DePaula all improved slightly (DePaula actually improved more than slightly, lowering his ERA by .35 points). Thomas and Sawatski joined Olson on the "decliners" list.

Catchers
1.) Jose Morales - 45 games / .179 BA / 2 HR / 15 RBI
2.) Steve Lomasney - 29 games / .220 BA / 2 HR / 10 RBI

Morales got 4 of the 6 games the Rock Cats played this week, and dropped his batting average ever so slightly. Lomasney went 3-for-3 on the 16th, helping to raise his batting average .25 points this week.

Infielders
1B - Doug Deeds - 58 games / .253 BA / 4 HR / 24 RBI
2B - J.R. Taylor - 54 games / .186 BA / 0 HR / 7 RBI
SS - Felix Molina - 51 games / .265 BA / 6 HR / 23 RBI
3B - Matt Moses - 56 games / .246 BA / 10 HR / 29 RBI
DH - Daniel Matienzo - 60 games / .226 BA / 8 HR / 41 RBI

With Tommy Watkins being promoted to AAA, the number of infielders on the team was reduced by one. I decided to list Doug Deeds as a 1B from now on, however, since he started 5 of the 6 games this week at first. Second base is a little less settled, but Taylor got 3 starts compared to Molina's 2 this week. They switched off, with Taylor playing SS when Molina was played at 2B. Matt Moses started every game at 3B. Matienzo, meanwhile, got 4 starts as the DH and 1 at 1B this week. The week wasn't kind to anybody's batting average, with Moses (20 points) and Taylor (14 points) suffering the most. Matienzo and Moses did both hit one homerun during the week.

Outfielders
1.) Trent Oeltjen - 47 games / .312 BA / 0 HR / 13 RBI
2.) Denard Span - 63 games / .287 BA / 1 HR / 18 RBI
3.) Scott Whitrock - 34 games / .222 BA / 2 HR / 8 RBI

With Alex Romero's promotion to AAA and Doug Deeds reclassification as a 1B, there are noticeably few outfielders on the Rock Cats' roster. Oeltjen had a phenomenal week, raising his batting average by 14 points and having 3 multi-hit games out of the 6 played. Romero had been the teams starting LF, but Oeltjen has now taken over that role. Denard Span started 5 games in CF and 1 as the DH. Whitrock had been getting spot starts in RF, but as of now is the team's starting RF until and unless someone gets promoted from Ft. Myers or demoted from Rochester to take over the position.
